What to do if you're injured on the job:35 dh need name

If you are ever injured at work, you may qualify for worker's compensation. Worker's compensation can reimburse you for medical bills, as well as allow you to receive compensation for any lost work time due to your injury. Worker's compensation is administered through the Yale Benefits Office and the state Worker's Compensation Commission.

If you do sustain an injury, the first thing that you must do is fill out a Yale accident report. Usually your supervisor will provide you with one. You must then go to Urgent Visit at the Yale Health Plan, whether you are a member of the Health Plan or not. They will refer you to Employee Health. Following your visit to Employee Health, you are then free to see your own doctor.

As soon as you are injured you should contact your Local 35 steward, who can help you should Yale deny your worker's compensation claim. As soon as possible after you are injured you must fill out a 30-C form. This is the form that formally files your worker's compensation claim with the state Worker's Compensation Commission. This also entitles you to a hearing before a Worker's Compensation Commissioner should Yale deny your claim. You can get a 30-C form from Frank Anderson at the Local 35 office. The 30-C must be filed with the state within one year of your injury and must be mailed by certified letter.

If your claim is denied by the Yale Benefits Office, you and someone from the union can schedule a hearing with the state Worker's Compensation Commission. At the hearing, a Commissioner will hear your case and decide if you are, in fact, entitled to compensation. The union may accompany you to the hearing and help you through the process. Generally, workers who were injured on the job are successful in seeking their fair and just compensation.

For more information, see the website for the Connecticut State Workers Compensation Commission.
